Ayesha Takia, is an Indian actress (born April 10, 1986) who mainly appears in Bollywood films. She made her film debut in Taarzan: The Wonder Car for which she won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in 2004. Her most recent commercial success was the 2009 film Wanted.Takia began her career as a model when she was 15, appearing in the famous "I am a Complan Boy! I’m a Complan Girl!" campaign alongside Shahid Kapoor and also in Falguni Pathak's "Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye" music video. When she was 18, she appeared in the music video "Shake It Daddy", which brought her to the attention of Bollywood, and a few film offers followed. She signed a contract to appear in Socha Na Tha, then for Taarzan: The Wonder Car. However, delays making Socha Na Tha meant that Taarzan was released first and was therefore her “debut” film. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in 2004 for her performance in the film.

Takia has appeared in a number of films that did poorly at the box office. However, she has been highly praised for her work in the 2006 Dor, a smaller budget film in which she plays the role of a young widowed Rajasthani woman living in a traditional joint family. She went on to win several awards for her performance in the film, including the Zee Cine Critics Award for Best Actress.

Apart from Bollywood, Takia has also appeared in the 2005 Telugu film Super, with Tollywood star Akkineni Nagarjuna, for which she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award (Telugu). Her most recent hit was Prabhu Deva's Wanted, co-starring Salman Khan, which emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2009. The film was the third-highest grossing movie of the year and her role met with positive reviews.

In 2011, she starred in Mod, which met with a good response. As of 2012, she was hosting the musical-reality show Sur Kshetra.Takia dated Siddharth Koirala then later Ashmit Patel for a short period, but broke up with him after his MMS clip with Riya Sen was released.[citation needed]

On 1 March 2009, Takia married Farhan Azmi, a restaurateur and the son of politician Abu Asim Azmi, a Samajwadi Party leader, in an Islamic Nikah ceremony. The couple had originally planned to marry in December 2008, but the wedding was delayed due to the 2008 Mumbai attacks. She has a baby boy with Farhan Azmi, born on 6th Dec, 2013.Ayesha had never let her lack of speaking Hindi fluently come in her way. A go-getter, she is no stranger to the silver screen and has faced cameras even at the tender age of 4. Her continuity was what got her noticed and the makers of 'Socha Na Tha' approached her in 2004 to play the lead role opposite Dharmendra's nephew Abhay Deol which she accepted.

She also signed up for another film 'Tarzaan The Wonder Car' which proved to be her debut in Bollywood, as the release of 'Socha Na Tha' was delayed.

With 'Tarzaan The Wonder Car' Ayesha quickly made her mark in Bollywood and not only was noticed but also received an Award - The Best Filmfare Debut.

Thereafter her films have done poorly at the Box Office, although she scored highly with teenaged audience in India and abroad, especially with her performance in 'Dil Maange More' and 'Shaadi No. 1'.

She also appeared in a 2006 Telegu movie named 'Robbery', which was later dubbed into Hindi and released as 'Super'.

And then came Dor in which she played the role without any glamor - the film that brought a lot of praise and much needed recognition for her. Here she has proved that she can enact both good and glamorous on one hand and the more ordinary next door type girl roles with ease.

Ayesha's tweet says: "My father-in-law is the head of our family, we all love and respect him a lot. I have my own mindset which doesn't have to match with everyone even when it's some one I care for, love and respect deeply."

The actress' statement suggests that she is not defending Abu Azmi's sexist comments. Whereas, his son Farhan Azmi was deeply embarassed and apologised saying, "He made statements that were completely not him, he's upset with himself and only I know how bad he's feeling right now. Deep inside, he's very sad. Whatever he said, it was politically wrong", reports Bombay Times.

Joining a list of leaders who made controversial remarks following the Delhi gangrape incident, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi on Tuesday said women should not go out with men other than relatives and agreed with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's view that most rapes take place in cities and not villages.

"Women should not venture out with men who are not relatives," Azmi, a member of Maharashtra assembly, said.

"What is the need for roaming at night with men who are not relatives? This should be stopped," he added. FULL STORY

Why would Abu Azmi say something like this when his own son is married to a Bollywood actress, who lives the most liberal life? If Ayesha Takia has essayed some coy-girl roles, in all fairness she has to her credit a film like Dor also which shows emancipation of a socially thwarted woman.

Ayesha studied at St Anthony’s High School, Chembur.She never went to college. She has appeared in the famous I’m a Complan Girl campaign along with Shahid Kapoor. Later, she was part of the music video, Falguni Pathak’s Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye, when she was just 15 years old. Ayesha’s appearance in the music video, Shake It Daddy, when she was sixteen, got her a break in the film.
