Mahima Chaudhary is a Bollywood actress and also a model of Nepal, who had a popularity in 1990s. She was one of the most demanded heroines in that period. She used to change her role in every film, and she acted wide variety of characters. She accepted a character from a village girl to nasty prostitute. She was a model before she became an actress. She got a breakthrough by director Subhash Ghai, who gave breaks to Manisha Koirala and Madhuri Dixit. Initially she was featured in advertisements like wall’s ice cream and 1st ad of Pepsi.Mahima Chaudhary was born on 13th September 1973 and her born’s name is Ritu Chaudhary which later renamed by Subhash Ghai as Mahima Chaudhary based on some superstitions and he considered M as lucky for Mahima. She was born in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Her father is a Hindu who is from a Kankripur village in Uttar Pradesh. Her mother is Nepali and she is from Darjeeling. She studied up to 10th standard in famous convent school in Darjeeling. Pre University was completed in Loreto Convent. Before moving to Delhi for higher studies she participated in a beauty pageant in Darjeeling and she won that competition. Before coming to movies she worked as Video Jockey in music channels and there she was recognized by Subhas Ghai.

Mahima Chaudhary married to Bobby Mukherjee, who is an architect in 2006. Both of them married secretly in Las Vegas at hoteliers` conference. This couple is blessed with a daughter by name Aryana. The story is based on the life of two cousins named Rachna and Gunjan. The one is a simple and introvert girl (Rachna), while the other is a playful and fun-loving girl (Gunjan).

Gunjan's life takes a drastic turn when she has to shift base to Varanasi, before her mother's demise. It becomes difficult for her to adjust to the joint family Initially she finds her cousin, Rachna, very difficult to bond withas they both are of different nature but slowly they develop an endearing bond as the story progresses. The two cousins compliments each other by learning from the other's strengths. While Gunjan taught Rachna to spread her arms open and enjoy life to the fullest, Rachna taught her patience and foresightedness.

She said, "It has been a very interesting journey so far and I have got to learn a lot from the character of Rachna. I am really happy the way Rachna's character has evolved. Initially, Rachna used to get scared of everyone but now she has grown as a confident girl and she can give her own views regarding something. Now, I am really happy the way Rachna's character has been shown in the show."After gaining an attention by popular director, she made a debut opposite to Bollywood Badshaw Sharukh Khan in the movie Pardes, this movie gave break to her and she bagged the best debutant award in Filmfare. Later she didn’t turn back and she acted in various types of roles. Village girl, prostitute, singer, stubborn wife, women fighting for dowry, frustrated house wife, paralytic dancer and many different roles were acted by Mahima Chaudhary.

Along with acting various kinds of roles, she was able to act with many talented and already established actresses like Hema Malini, Tabu, Preity Zinta, Rekha, Raveena Tandon, Manisha Koirala, Kajol, Urmila Matondkar and Shilpa Shetty.
