Soundarya Sandeep (July 18, 1972 - April 17, 2004) (born as Soumya) was an Indian film actress who appeared in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bollywood films in lead roles. She was considered as the replacement for legendary actress savitri. She was a much sought-after star in the 1990s and acted in more than 100 films, most of them in Telugu. [1] She produced movies in the later phase of her career and won the Silver Lotus Award for her film Dweepa. She also received the Filmfare Awards six times for her acting performances. Soundarya died in a plane crash while campaigning for a political party near Bangalore in 2004.Even today many lacs of hardcore fans of this great Indian actress Soundarya will become sad when they remember about indigestible tragedy end happened to her. She won the millions of hearts of her fans all over the country when she had been popular in Indian film industry in 1990s. She was born in Bangalore on 17th June, 1972 as the daughter of Mr.Sathyanarayana and Mrs.Manjula couple. Her father Mr.Sathyanarayana had been the popular film director of Kannada film industry. Soundarya proved her talent by playing different roles in many films released in India that time. She had acted in different languages of India like Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
Soundarya's Film Career

She first appeared in a Kannada film named 'Gandharva' when he was a school student. Since she wanted to become a medical doctor, she joined her MBBS course. But, she dropped the idea of becoming medical doctor after seeing success of her acted Telugu film named 'Ammoru'. Her only brother Mr.Amarnath encouraged her to give preference to the acting.


In her successful film career of more than 10 years Soundarya won many awards for her woderful performance. Soundarya became most popular in Tollywood film industry and won 'Nandi' award in the year 2003 for her great acting in one of the Telugu films. One of her kannada film named 'Dweepa' got her National award of 'Swarna Kamal' for the best film of the year and also the state awards for the best Kannada film, the best actress and wonderful cinematography.

Her popular Telugu films are Anthapuram, Amman and Hello Brother. She played opposite almost all the top heroes of Tollywood industry including Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Nagaarjune and Srikanth. She had also won many lacs of Tamil fans as he played in many number of Tamil films. Ponnumani, Padayappa, Thavasi, Arunachalam are her popular Tamil movies. Rajinikanth, Kamalhasan, Vijayakanth are some of the popular Tamil heroes played opposite her. She also gave many successful Kannada films and Hindi films In one of her Hindi film named Sooryavavansham she acted with most popular Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachcan. She also paid concentration in some of Malayalam movies and played opposite Mega Star Mammooty.

Soundarya never liked to appear on glamor roles and she always preferred family stories and devotional films. That was only reason for her many millions of fans all over the country.

The Tragedy End of Soundarya

Soundarya was Kannadian Iyengar girl by birth and she was pure vegetarian and had great belief on God . Soundarya had good looking, nice color complexion and wonderful acting talent. But everything became vain in a few seconds when she met a flight accident on April 17th, 2004. Indeed she never liked to come to the film industry and politics but, in this world who can win their fate. Her misfortune made her to meet that indigestible flight accident

During the Parliamentary Election of India in the year 2004 Soundarya was pleased to take part in the electoral campaign to support BJP at Bangalore just a day before she killed in the flight accident. On that black day of April 17th 2004, she was scheduled for the electoral compaign at Karim Nagar of Andhra Pradesh as already planned by BJP party men.

But that day became her last day in her life. Every thing was over when her travelled four seat cessna 180 air craft vertically fell down just few minutes after the take off. Soundarya and her brother Mr.Amarnath, Mr.Ramesh Kadam (Secretary of Hindu Jagrana Vedika) and the pilot Joy Philips were cruely killed in that heartbreaking accident. It is really pity to understand that Soundarya screamed for the help when the fight fell down on the Jakkur airfield. But, she and others caught fire before people reaching the spot. .

It is said that accident might have happened as the pilot suddenly changed the direction of plane to avoid dashing with a bird as we can usually find the Jakkur atmosphere with many number of birds and due to the sudden shake of the flight Soundarya might have held some operational knobs lying in front of her seat since she was wrongly seated on the co-pilot seat on that day. .

It is true that we all are going to die on one day. But, this sort of tragedy end happened to Soundarya made her fans very sad. Even she did not complete one year after her marriage. No one in this world can win the God's decision. Let us pay our sincere homage to our favorite actress Soundarya and her soul may rest in peace!
Soundarya was born in the village of Ashtagrama. She was an Ashtagrama Iyer. She was fluent in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and English. She married her maternal uncle's son and childhood friend, software engineer G. S. Raghu, on 27 April 2003. She planned on promoting public welfare during her lifetime. At the time of her death, she was about to produce and act in a film titled 'Kamli', directed by K. N. T Sastry. Her wishes of funding welfare activities are being fulfilled by her husband and sister-in-law through the Amara Soundarya Social and Educational Trust [ASSET]. Soundarya maintained an orphanage in Bangalore. Presently, it is being maintained by her relatives. The school, Amara Soundarya Vidyalaya, is maintained by her trust and her own home is now being used as a school. She had also provided funds for a number of educational institutions. She was two months pregnant at the time of her death.
Death[edit]
Soundarya died on April 17, 2004, in an aircraft crash near Bangalore, when the plane she was traveling in caught fire immediately after take-off. The plane, a Cessna 180, chartered by Agni Aviation, left Jakkur Airfield at 11:05 AM. Shortly after take-off the plane turned left, plunged and crashed in an open field about 500 m from the airport. She was on her way to Andhra Pradesh to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party for the coming elections. Her brother, Amarnath, a producer of Kannada films, also died in the accident. She was awarded the Karnataka State Award posthumously for her Kannada super hit film and her last film Apthamithra, which was received by her mother.
